ColdNet is built on a simple principle: your data belongs to you. This privacy policy explains exactly what information we collect, how we use it, and what stays on your device.
What ColdNet Does
ColdNet is an offline AI knowledge app for iOS. It runs a local language model on your device and searches a downloaded Wikipedia knowledge base to answer your questions. The core functionality — asking questions, getting answers, searching knowledge — happens entirely on your iPhone with no internet connection required.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create a ColdNet account, we collect:
Email address — used for authentication and account recovery
Display name — shown in your profile within the app
Password — handled securely by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your password directly
Information We Do NOT Collect
Your conversations and chat messages
Your search queries
Any images you attach to messages
Your location
Your contacts or photos
Device sensor data
Advertising identifiers
What Stays On Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your iPhone and never leaves your device:
All chat conversations and messages
Image attachments
Downloaded AI model files
Downloaded Wikipedia knowledge base
Your search and conversation history
We cannot access, read, or recover this data. If you delete the app, this data is permanently deleted.
What We Store On Our Servers
We use Firebase (operated by Google) to manage accounts. The following is stored on Firebase servers:
Your email address
Your display name
Your subscription tier
Your auto-delete preference setting
Account creation and last-updated timestamps
A Firebase user ID (a random identifier assigned to your account)
This is the only data that leaves your device and is stored on our servers.
Third-Party Services
ColdNet uses the following third-party services:
Firebase (Google) — Account authentication and profile storage. Subject to Google Privacy Policy.
Google Sign-In — If you choose to sign in with Google, the OAuth process is handled by Google. We receive only your email and name.
Apple Speech Recognition — If you use the voice input feature, your speech is processed by Apple Speech framework. On iOS 17 and later, this may happen entirely on-device. On earlier versions, audio may be sent to Apple servers for processing. Subject to Apple Privacy Policy.
HuggingFace — The AI model is downloaded from HuggingFace servers during initial setup. No personal data is sent; this is a file download only.
Cloudflare — The Wikipedia knowledge base is downloaded from Cloudflare storage during setup. No personal data is sent; this is a file download only.
Analytics and Tracking
ColdNet does not use any analytics, tracking, or telemetry. Specifically:
No Firebase Analytics (explicitly disabled)
No crash reporting services
No usage tracking
No advertising SDKs or ad identifiers
No cookies
No device fingerprinting
Note: The Firebase SDK includes GoogleAppMeasurement as a technical dependency, but analytics collection is disabled in our configuration and no analytics data is collected or transmitted.
Data Retention and Deletion
Local data: You control your local data entirely. The app includes an auto-delete feature that can automatically remove conversations after 7 or 30 days. You can also manually delete conversations at any time. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all local data.
Account data: You can delete your account from within the app. This removes all data stored on our Firebase servers including your email, name, and profile information.
Children's Privacy
ColdNet is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data Security
Account data transmitted to Firebase is encrypted in transit using TLS. Local data on your device is protected by your iPhone's built-in encryption and passcode.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or by email.
